Dog ill-treated - Maggot infested

WARNING! PICTURE MIGHT BE DISTURBING!

We received an E-mail regarding a maggot infested dog. Here is the content of the E-mail:

Dear friends,

Please help to spread the word and post on other sites! Help to fight a little justice for the animal that is no longer around!

This is an dog abuse case at a vegetable farm located at 31 Lim Chu Kang Lane 1...

'Raw maggot infested wound, with flies all over his body and maggots eating his flesh from the raw open wound on the head...'

This old brown dog was chained up with a short rusty metal chain in a vegetable farm and was stepping on the same piece of soil for more than 3 years with minimal shelter over his animal that equals to none...

Exposed to the elements no matter rain or shine, day or night.

For years and years, he was eating leftover junk, rotten food covered with ants and houseflies..

The bone and brain was clearly visible when he was discovered yesterday... and the itch caused by the houseflies and maggots feasting on the flesh resulted in the poor dog scratching endlessly.

The SPCA was infomed and took the dog and had put it down but yet unsure whether legal actions will be taken to the farm who is responsible.

This afternoon I was at AVA to sign a statement as evidence but AVA is also unsure of whether the person will be prosecuted even with those evidence, photographs taken by myself as well as SPCA , and eye witnesses including the SPCA personnels who were also at the scene.
The farm denied ownership of the animal and says only chained up the dog to prevent it from damaging the vegetation, INSISTING THEY DID NOT own the dog although it was chained and fed by their people IN THEIR PREMISES for at least 3 years!

It was only 3 days back when we happen to past by the farm again and shocked to notice the dog with an maggot infested wound! However, there are others living in the area who can testify that the dog was chain up inside the vegetable farm premises for at least 3 years but the wound was there probably for the last 2 months.

Please help to spread the word! Write in to the AVA and to the Ministers to express your views.

Sweety for Adoption

Sweety

Sweety is a gentle, young female cat, with stripes on her legs. Not only is she very affectionate but she's also very communicative - she loves to talk, and meows purposefully in a way that makes you wish you understood cat language. She is toilet trained but not sterilized, because she's FIV+ and surgery may not be the best thing for her right now.

FIV is not communicable to humans and, with proper care, many FIV+ cats can live long, normal lives around 10 years. Care-taker found Sweety near a construction site near where we live, with an injury on her leg, which some witnesses say could have been because of physical abuse. She took her to the vet to treat her for the injury, and to remove her from the place where she might be being beaten up. After being discharged from the hospital, she's currently in a temporary care shelter in Lim Chu Kang. The care-taker have family members who are allergic to cats hence not able to keep her.

Please give Sweety a chance to have a good home and be loved like any other normal cats. =) Feel free to contact us for an interaction session with Sweety.

Dogs' Day Out

*woof woof!* What an exciting day! My name is Moo and I am a mongrel. I wrote about my past before and now I want to share about my trip to the beach.

I was half asleep when I saw my owner took out my lease. Oh!! I am going out! I sat straight up waiting at the door for the leash to be put on me. After I was leashed, I waited for the door to open so I could dash out. But something was not right. Instead of going out, I was pulled to the toilet and guess what! I had to take a bath, one of the things I hate most! But after hearing my person said, "Good boy ok, you need to bathe. Tomorrow you are going to meet two new friends and would be going to the beach.", I felt so excited and anxious about the next day that I totally forgot about the bath!

The next day, I was first taken to Yishun to meet up with two people, one often gave me treats and canned food =), the other was a young new face. Then we drove to Pasir Ris farmway where I got to meet two new friends, Mario and Wanda. Mario is very handsome and Wanda is very pretty looking! But Wanda doesn't seem to like me very much. Maybe she thinks I am not handsome enough? But I don't care! I think I am the most handsome dog in the world.. And that is what my owner thinks so too! I thought maybe just give her sometime, she will warm up with me eventually.
When we reached, the first thing I did was pee and poo. Poor him, always got to clear up after I do my business. They always say I pee like a female. I just do not understand why male has to pee with a leg pointing towards the sky. We tried to find a shore with not much people. After a long walk, we found a perfect place. Before we start, it was lunch time. Chicken with rice and some chicken liver were prepared for us. Not forgetting some treats as dessert. Wanda and I fought over the food so we were forced to watch Mario feast before us. Then we had our share of food.

Mario's happy that he got to eat first.

Three of us eating.
After our lunch, we head to the beach, I did not dare to step into the water and he was just trying to pull me towards the water! Mario is running around in the water and drinking some of it. Then I saw a beauty laying on the swallow water enjoying the gentle waves hitting against her.

Wanda! how "wanda-ful"...
I slowly took my first step into the water with lots of encouragement. That was the maximum, no further than that. I don't understand why other dogs can stand water either! Sometimes I think I'm a cat! Then we head to the grass to play Frisbee. Apparently I am the only one who knows how to play... *beams proudly* After a short while, we had to head home. Paws and legs filled with sand and dirt, we board the van and went back to Pasir Ris Farmway to drop Mario and Wanda off. Nice meeting both of you and hope to see you guys soon!... Then off we went, back to home sweet home... I just collapsed after a wash up.

Hope to go again soon!

GuaPo - Adopt me!

Hey there! Stop scrolling down and take a look at me! My name is GuaPo and it means handsome in Spanish. =) I am aren't I? I used to be roaming around Bugis Street where traffic is really heavy. I was 2 months then, my mother and siblings were no longer with me. Not sure where they went to but hope they are safe. The rubbish area is like my canteen where I often go dig my food.

One night I was hiding under a van and guess what? Two person walked up to me and played with me. I heard them saying something like... " What is a kitten doing here? It is very dangerous for him to be here because of the heavy traffic." Oh well it is true though, for me to go to the canteen, I have to cross a road and back again to my rest area.

They played with me and I saw one of them brought a something like a portable cave and place it on the ground. I am quite curious and went around sniffing and exploring it. I saw something moving and naturally as a cat I went for it and head straight into the "cave". Once in, the door closed and I am trapped!

They brought me to a new place with some other cats. Food and drinks are served to me everyday. oh well, I never regret going into that strange cave. =) Met new friends and tasted food that taste better.

But I knew those people taking care of me are trying to help me find a better home. And I really do wish that someday soon, I will have an owner who will care and shower me with love. I love been pampered and I love eating a lot. So please, if you one who loves handsome cats like me, bring me home! I am waiting for you! I am really alright if you have other cats at home too. =)

Please meow at Andy or Videl to see me...

Dixie - Adopt me!

My name is Dixie and I am orange and black in colour. I am a 4 months old female kitten who is searching for a loving and caring owner.

I was running across the bus stop and someone just pick me up and brought me home. They told me they will get me a home so that I do not have to be outside searching for food and most importantly the outside world is no longer safe for us, cats, anymore. I cannot wait to go to the new home. =) Please...please.... call Andy or Videl and say you are interested in me! Can't wait to see you!

A little more about myself, I am very friendly with people. To cats I can slowly get along, so please give me time to adapt and get use to other cats.

Hope to see your face soon!

Introducing our cat Lychee (aka Lickitung)

Lychee is the sweetest cat we ever met, she is very very affectionate. A very special and dear cat to us. There was one point we almost lose her and we were terribly depressed. Thankfully she was save and sound afterall (=

Why Lychee? Cos she has such sweet temperament and she looks so white and soft to touch, doesn't she! Her maiden name is Litckitung. Whats that? Its a really cute character that has a long tounge, goes around licking everyone she sees, just like Lychee does to us. She's like this. (=

Definitely not similar in terms of looks I know!

1st experience with Cat Grass

Lychee (far right) was particularly interested

Its really funny to witness them eat grass! Ha ha they look so curious with their eyes wide and intensive sniffing at it as if its an alien. And most of them actually ate the cat grass. Only Hua Hua and Milky were not exactly enthusiastic. They tried sniffing though!

>.<

Huang Huang.. cont'd

As I was saying, I'm an extremely handsome and affectionate gentleman.
Lets look at what my friend has to say about me.

"Huang Huang was a very sweet stray I was taking care of, but he was caught by AVA last week. One more day and this sweet fella would have been given the death jab. Went to claim him and AVA microchipped him. This means he ABSOLUTELY CANNOT be put back on the streets, as a 2nd-time capture would mean immediate death for him, with no claims allowed. He's being fostered temporarily now. We are looking for a forever loving home for this sweet ginger.

Huang Huang is a sweet boy, abt 4 years old, and still has a good many years ahead of him. He's sterilized, with a tipped ear. With the cutest perpetual kitten face, he also has a playful kitten-like personality despite being an adult. He's affectionate and easy-going. Allows himself to be carried around with very little show of struggle. Litter-box trained."

And now let the photos speak for itself (:

Let me know if you wanna know me more. Thanks!

Fun Facts About Cats!

Here are some interesting facts about cats :

1) The nose pad of a cat is ridged in a pattern that is unique, just like the fingerprint of a human.
2) A cat's heart beats twice as fast as a human heart, at 110 to 140 beats per minute.

3) Calico cats are almost always female.

4) If your cat is near you, and her tail is quivering, this is the greatest expression of love your cat can give you.   If her tail starts thrashing, her mood has changed --- Time to distance yourself from her.

5) Cats knead with their paws when they're happy.

6) Your cat loves you and can "read" your moods.  If you're sad or under stress, you may also notice a difference in your cat's behavior.

7) During her productive life, one female cat could have more than 100 kittens.

8) The oldest cat on record was Puss, from England, who died in 1939 just one day after her 36th birthday.

9) The weirdest cat on record was a female called Mincho who went up a tree in Argentina and didn't come down again until she died six years later.  While treed, she managed to have three litters with equally ambitious dads.

10) People who own pets live longer, have less stress, and have fewer heart attacks.

11) The greatest number of mice killed by one cat?  28,899!  Towser, a tortoise-shell tabby in charge of rodent control in Scotland, killed 28,899 mice in her 21 years.  This is about four mice per day, every day, for 21 years.  Towser died in 1987.

12) Give your cat a quality scratching post to deter her from scratching your furniture.  Still scratching?  Try putting lemon scent or orange scent on the area.  Cats hate these smells.

13) Cats rub up against other cats, and people, in an attempt to "mark" them with their scent glands.  They most often use the scent glands between their eye and ear (near the temple area) or their scent glands near the base of their tail.

14) Cats are the sleepiest of all mammals.   They spend 16 hours of each day sleeping.  With that in mind, a seven year old cat has only been awake for two years of its life!

15) Domestic cats are essentially loners.   When placed in a group, they develop their own hierarchy.  As long as there is plenty of food on hand, a cat can learn to share it's domain with other cats.

16) Cats are more aggressive when they are not neutered or spayed.

17) A cat that bites you after you have rubbed his stomach, is probably biting out of pleasure, not anger.

Ginger cat for Adoption

Hi hi ! Can I have your attention for a moment?

My name is Huang Huang (yellow).

I'm a very young male adult cat seeking some human company - I am strong and healthy, my coat is shiny ginger in colour. My favourite past-time includes toy-chasing and people-observing.

I am a really good and well-mannered cat who doesn't pick my food.

I'm now being taken care by a nice person in hope of rehoming me, but she can't keep me for too long due to family and cats issues...

If you are keen to make friends with me, please phone the friendly peeps at GOP. (^.^) 3Q!

Gone to Good Homes

Had been very busy lately trying to re-home kitties and taking care of kittens. 3 kittens were abandoned without mum and they were just about 3 weeks back then. A kind soul found them in a cupboard box at the void deck and bring them home, and later on passed them to us. Cats just keep on coming in, faster that the adoption rate. When will these people start sterilising all their home cats and not let them breed outside with kittens eventually ended up at void decks or anywhere except in the home where they were born.

All that aside, still we are glad that some of our cats found good homes!

Brownie and Cupcake were adopted together! Which means they got to stay together =) We are very, very thankful to the adopter and her fiance for adopting them.

After they were adopted, their adopter bring them for a check up and sadly, Cupcake was having some illness. Nevertheless she was cared for and looked after by the adopters. We are so happy they are in such good hands.

Jaguar, Cheetah & Leopard were adopted as well! Jaguar already went to his new home. He has a dog which is his best friend now. Cheetah and Leopard they are going to their respective homes this weekend. =)

Jaguar
Cheetahhhh (;

Rou Rou went to a very nicely furnished home and of course her owner too, very nice and cares a great deal for Rou Rou.

Vanilla was adopted too! Very glad to hear that she is settling well at her new home. =) Can feel that her new owner love and care for her a lot.

Thanks! to all the adopters for giving them a home. They can never be happier now that they have such wonderful homes and owners. =)
