Timber was found abandoned at a carpark in Hougang, under a car. When we first tried to lure him with food he ate, but refused to be touched. He was always at the spot under a car day and night, it seems he was too frightened to explore or hunt. According to his feeder he was abandoned about 1 month ago. We were worried as his condition doesn't look good.. After a couple of attempts, he was trapped.
The first thing we noticed immediately was his severe fur condition. It was all clumped up with urine and faeces. He was brought to the vet for a body checkup and the doctor found him to be 8-9 years old. He has slightly low red blood cells, which could be due to cancer or other factors. His nails are so long that it curled into his paws. It must have hurt so much..
The vet gave him a good shave and he looked even more screwny.. We suspect that his previous owner did not take care of him and always caged him up, hence he is used to passing motion at the same spot. His nails were so long that it seems like untrimmed for years! We thought of rehoming him as he dosen't seem to be able to survive outside... Even though he is a bit old but with well grooming and care, we thought there may be a chance, no matter how small, someone would be willing to give him a home.. Just to give him happiness for his remaining years, which he has been missing out throughout his life.
So we brought Timber home last Weds. His appetite was quite good and everything seems normal. On Sunday, he suddenly stopped eating. Yesterday, he could not seem to move his body waist down. We brought him to another vet and doctor found him to have chronic kidney failure from the blood test... )= several indices are quite high and according to him they are 9 times higher than a normal cat, and one is even off the scale..
He also detected a lump and mentioned possibility of cancer.. )= but that would require ultrasound to determine. His mouth was bleeding from gum infection.
Today, Timber's condition worsened. He is entirely not moving and lying down. We were so worried that we rush him to be hospitalised and for him to be put on chloride drip, which helps the kidneys and to keep him hydrated, hoping that would make him feel better.
The doctor did advise to put him to sleep as he most likely cannot last long, but we just don't have the heart.. He estimates that he has 3 days.
According to doctor, the medical and hospital cost is about $100 a day, and for the vets consultation, blood test and medicine so far it cost $175. Right now we are totally out of funds, the clinic is kind enough to allow us to pay later..
